This year was a huge change for me in the seasonal affliction department. Every year for as long as I can remember I have been affected by ragweed, goldenrod, and any other little pesky seedling floating past my nostrils. I remember calling my parents from college: “I think I’m dying…I can’t go to classes all week.” They would say, “You have allergies.” I would reply, “Nope – this is definitely bronchitis…I think I need to quit school.”
They were right. My doctor sent me, along with 60% of their patients home with prescriptions for allergy medicine.
Last year, I asked folks who use the same therapeutic-grade essential oils as I do if there was something I could do that would protect me against the elements. There was: Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon. I started using this combination early in the year and by spring when I’m usually tensing up from sneezing and stocking up on my nose sprays and over-the-counter medication, I was fine. It was also the first winter season that I didn’t have to go to the doctor’s office for any kind of seasonal threat whatsoever.
Throughout the summer I was fine, soaking in and storing all the heat I could for winter. Of course since I felt fine, I kind of slacked on my Lavender/Peppermint/Lemon daily protocol but because the essential oils are such a part of my daily life, I did use them from time to time for other purposes (lavender for calming, peppermint for headaches, lemon for pulling toxins). Now as we near autumn, cool nights beg me to keep the windows wide open so the breeze can carry me off to sleep. But lucky me, there have been a few early mornings at 3 a.m. that find my nose and sinuses completely blocked and inflamed with those seedlings trying to plant themselves and take root (sorry buddy – ain’t no ragweed gonna be growing in my sinuses next year).
Thank the wholly good universe I don’t have to wait there in bed and suffer until I can call my doctor in the morning. I got up, rubbed the Respiratory Blend of Laurel Leaf, Cardamom, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Lemon, and Ravensara on the bottoms of my feet, then breathed in the sweet, cooling, uplifting aroma from my hands deep into my sinuses until I fell fast asleep. If I was awake enough, I would have also put the blend in my essential oil diffuser to breathe in by my bedside all morning but this clumsy gal probably would have spilled that all over my bed (mornings and I don’t mix very well).
I don’t like to see people suffer as I had for most of my life and I love being able to share the gift of natural healthcare and natural healing with my friends and family. Christmas, birthday and special-occasion gifts have become so easy for me because I’m not a fan of buying nick-knacks (I think people already have enough stuff), I’m not a fan of buying gift cards because everyone I’ve bought them for either forgets they have them or loses them. So I say, why not give the gift of health? Everyone needs that.
I’m lucky enough to get my preventative healthcare at wholesale cost AND to actually get my essential oils for free. But guess what?! YOU CAN TOO. Email me if you would like information on how to give the gift of health and check out my calendar page to see where I’m teaching about wellness next.
You never have to suffer from allergies through the night again – HONEST!
